Coach George Adkins, COO and Head Coach
Coach George is one of the most decorated coaches on the Peninsula. With over 40 years of experience coaching youth, we are very blessed to have Coach George and his wide array of coaching experience and knowledge to add to our Next Generation Hoops program.
Coach George first got his coaching start on the elementary school level in San Bruno. After so many accomplishments, he was moved up to coaching basketball and flag football at Parkside Intermediate School. From there, the parents of the players he coached who were attending Capuchino High School made it their mission to get Coach George hired at Capuchino as well. At Capuchino, Coach George was the Frosh/Soph Basketball Coach, helping develop the team that made it to the CIF State Championship in 1995.
After Capuchino, Coach George took his talents to the collegiate level, coaching at Cal State Monterey Bay and City College of San Francisco. He made his way back to the youth level becoming the freshman coach at Archbishop Riordan High School. During this time, Coach George also coached AAU, providing opportunities to young underrepresented, inner city youth as the Assistant Director of the Crusaders Basketball Club.
From that, Coach George was given the opportunity to run his own program, building Leadership High School Boys Basketball from scratch into a very well respected program in San Francisco. Coach George led Leadership to 5 straight league championship games, winning the 5th one during the 2009-10 season.
After the 2015-16 basketball season, Coach George stepped away from the coaching side of basketball to pursue his passion for officiating basketball. He had been officiating during the offseason in years past, but wanted to delve deeper into that side of basketball. Known as “the rules guy”, Coach George took his passion for developing people into his new role as a referee by being the person that other referees would approach to ask questions and to help further their development as referees.
In 2022, Coach George stepped back into coaching taking the role of Varsity Head Coach at Capuchino High School. In only his second season as the head of the program, Coach George led the Mustangs to the CCS Playoffs which he is planning to be a yearly occurrence from now on.
Coach George joins Next Generation Hoops as the Chief Operating Officer and Coach as he plans to continue his pursuit of developing young basketball players.
