Whether it was being on the court as a player himself or being on the sideline when his father was coaching, Coach G has been around basketball his whole life. Coach G has been coaching basketball since he was in 9th grade when he volunteered as a basketball coach at San Bruno Summer Slam. Coach G was a 3 year varsity player, who was an integral part of his high school team at Leadership High School in San Francisco, not because of his on court skills, but because of his knowledge of the game. Coach G quickly became someone who his teammates approached to ask questions and was looked at as a “coach on the court.” After tearing his ACL and Meniscus in his junior year, Coach G’s playing career was over. This was the start of Coach G’s development as a true basketball mind.

Upon graduating at the top of his class in 2013, Coach G received a full ride scholarship to attend the University of California, Berkeley. While at UC Berkeley, Coach G began working with the Cal Men’s Basketball team as a Student Manager. He was a part of the team that went undefeated at home and made it to the NCAA Tournament as a 4th ranked team. Coach G helped with the development of current and former pro basketball players like Jaylen Brown (Celtics), Ivan Rabb (Grizzlies), Jabari Bird (Indonesia), Roger Moute a Bidias (France), Kameron Rooks (Malta), Tyrone Wallace (Turkey), David Kravish (Spain), and Jordan Mathews (Italy) to name a few. During his time at Cal, Coach G coached at multiple Nike Sponsored, Cal Men’s Basketball Camps as well as continued to coach at San Bruno Summer Slam, gaining a larger role within the program as an Assistant Director.

After graduating from UC Berkeley in 2017, Coach G really jumped into coaching youth basketball. Over the next few years, Coach G had a few different coaching stops on the AAU level with Legacy Hoops and Renegades Basketball Club and at the school level at Borel Middle School in San Mateo. In 2022, Coach G joined the Capuchino High School Boys Basketball coaching staff, becoming the Varsity Basketball Head Assistant coach. His role with the team was running the offense, oversight of the Boys Basketball program as a whole, Social Media Director, and Director of Player Development. Coach G also directed basketball camps and leagues that the Capuchino Basketball team hosted for local elementary and middle school youth. The following year, Coach G was awarded the role of Junior Varsity Head Coach and did that while also still holding his role with the Varsity team.

Coach G founded Next Generation Hoops in 2024 as he saw the love of basketball grow amongst the youth of the Peninsula. With the growing numbers of basketball players, he saw that the number of coaches were not increasing at the same rate. He also noticed that those who did coach were not fully developing their players, which made them a step or two behind when it came to playing at the next level. In order to combat that, Coach G founded Next Generation Hoops and has been working on developing young hoopers to play at their full potential.
